Time Lapse Watercolor Painting, Heidi

This is my entry for the Tomie DePaola award that didn't win :( The contest was to illustrate a passage from the book Heidi. Strangely, most people portray Heidi as a blonde girl, but she actually has dark, curly hair in the book.  I entered the contest because I really want to attend the New York SCBWI conference but can't afford it. Winning would have afforded me accommodations. Oh well, it was a learning experience :) And, I have a new piece to share with you, my blog visitor! Click here for the youtube video!

Hope you visit my blog again!

I love watercolor, and I know how hard it is to paint in watercolor, so I commend you. Fantastic job!

Silly, you were supposed to tape a hundred dollar bill to the back of your painting. Those entries always win!
...yeah, I'm jaded, don't listen to me.

-But it's a beautiful painting and only you could have painted it. I'd recognize your style anywhere. Many artists have no style at all, you're one of the lucky ones. -Ted

Marcelo, your royal drawing-highness, glad you visited and liked what you saw! Your approval means a lot!

ah Ted :) I am jaded too. Last year I sent art samples to over a hundred publishers and no one bit the hook. Very deflating. But to see many cheerful comments really helps pick me up and keep me drawing.
